Before installing a car clock spring, it is recommended to disconnect the negative pole of the battery. This is a very important security operation for the following reasons:
Prevent airbags from accidentally triggering.
When the clock spring is connected directly to the safety airbag module and the car battery is plugged in, there is a high probability that the safety airbag will accidentally pop when the clock spring is removed or installed. This can lead not only to component damage, but also to physical injury.
Protection of the vehicle's electronic components
If the circuit is short-circuited during installation, the powered state will burn the electronic control system of the clock spring, wind-up spring or related steering column, causing unnecessary loss.
Other operational points:
After disconnecting the negative pole of the battery, it is recommended to wait 5-10 minutes for the remaining electricity in the vehicle's circuit to be fully released before further operation.
Once installed, first check that the clock spring is centered, then reconnect the battery negative pole, and finally check that the horn, multifunction steering wheel buttons, turn signal, and so on are working properly.
